Our story

Howard Empson Thatching is lead by Howard and a small team of dedicated craftsmen. Having had 15 years traditional thatching experience and being an active member of the National Society of Master Thatchers, you can be assured you are using a recognised Master Thatcher who will produce high quality craftsmanship.

The wide range of services that we offer includes everything from re-thatching and re-ridging and repairs. We use top-quality thatching materials in all of our services to ensure that the end results fulfil your requirements.

We decided to have the cottage re-thatched last summer and so started getting thatching companies in to survey and then give quotes for the work. Howard had already been recommended through a friend. He spent a great deal of time, more so than any of the other companies that came along, surveying the property and also supplied us with a portfolio of his work. A very pleasant, unassuming young gentleman that also gave us the confidence in his ability. He quoted that evening and we decided to go with him for the work. Throughout the 10 weeks he was here his quality of work, attendance (whatever the weather and with long hours, not leaving sometimes until way after dark), dedication and attention to fine detail was unsurpassed. We now have a property with a thatched roof that has been sculptured beautifully with incredible detail in particular to the ridge. If you are looking for a quality, beautifully engineered new thatch to your property I would highly recommend this company."
